Description

There is a $2,000 sign-on bonus available for this position; internal candidates and rehires within the last year are ineligible.

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a multi-skilled worker who assumes a wide range of clinical and administrative roles within the physician office setting. Under the supervision of a Physician and/or the direction of a licensed nurse, the CMA provides direct and indirect patient care, performs laboratory and other testing, and may assist with clerical functions. The CMA serves as a key team player when interacting and communicating with patients and/or clinical staff in the ambulatory care environment.

Responsibilities
  • Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers. Addresses questions and concerns promptly, or identifies appropriate person and resources to do so. Provides directions or help to patients and customers with finding their way.
  • Uses effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns when they occur.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by helping co-workers within and across departments. Communicates effectively with others, respects diverse opinions and styles, acknowledges the assistance and contributions of others.
  • Uses organizational and department resources efficiently.
  • Manages work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.
  • Contributes to opportunities and processes for continuous improvement.
  • Participates in efforts to reduce costs, streamline work processes, and improve services.
  • Rooms patients and provides direct patient care under supervision, recording histories, medications, and vital signs. Prepares patients for procedures and assists staff with examinations and treatments, considering individual patient needs.
  • Explains treatment procedures and reinforces patient education regarding medications and testing.
  • Administers injections and medications as directed.
  • Performs point of care testing and other office procedures, understanding test purposes and results.
  • Relays test results to patients and consults with staff for questions.
  • Maintains infection control standards and performs quality checks on office instruments.
  • Participates in governance, committee work, and practice projects.
  • Supports co-workers, mentors new staff, and acts as a team player.
  • Communicates professionally, maintains good relationships, and handles situations maturely.
  • Prioritizes workload and maintains organized workspaces.
  • Documents accurately and timely, and charges for services performed.
  • Engages in ongoing education to develop skills and shares knowledge.
  • Utilizes medical record and practice management systems effectively.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Two or more years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
  • Completion of phlebotomy class or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient typing and basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills in English; ability to use interpreter services as needed.

New graduates/hires must obtain certification within 1 year of hire. Acceptable certifications include CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, NRCMA, or an active RN/LPN license in Illinois.

Preferred
  • Associate's degree in Medical Assisting.
  • Second language proficiency.
