Qualifications

• 3 years of practical experience in the medical field.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
• Phlebotomy Certification and PCT Certification required.
• CPR certification preferred.
• No prior teaching experience required; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Secure and manage a network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students.
• Achieve and maintain a minimum 40% extern-to-hire conversion rate across sites.
• Conduct site visits to monitor student performance and strengthen partnerships with externship sites.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including TWC regulations.
• Collaborate with Career Services and Placement to support students’ transition to employment.
• Provide guidance to students regarding attendance, professionalism and performance during externships.
• Conduct externship orientations and assist with resume writing and interview preparation.
• Maintain documentation such as timecards, evaluations and affiliation agreements.
• Track student progress and ensure completion of final evaluations and exit interviews.
• Promote the externship program through outreach within the medical community.

The Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator plays a key role in bridging the gap between academic training and professional practice for aspiring Medical Assistants. This position is responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with externship sites to ensure students gain valuable hands-on experience in real-world healthcare settings.

The Coordinator oversees the operational and compliance aspects of the externship program while ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role is essential to fostering student success, improving employability outcomes, and strengthening the institution’s partnerships within the medical community.

Responsibilities

Secure and manage a network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students, ensuring a variety of placement opportunities.

Achieve and maintain a minimum 40% extern-to-hire conversion rate across assigned sites.
