Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a health-care setting preferred; physician clinic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Triage calls, schedule urgent/emergent add‑ons, and support referrals.
  • Perform routine pre‑examination procedures, including vital signs and patient data collection.
  • Assist providers with examinations, including injections and blood specimen collection.
  • Prepare and clean patient areas, set up equipment, and sterilize instruments.
  • Order supplies/medications, manage inventory, and coordinate with departments.
  • Provide patient education and medication counseling; coordinate continuity of care.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing insurance forms and answering the phone.

Summary

Under direct supervision of the provider, the Medical Assistant is responsible for patient assessment and care, maintaining appropriate documentation, and ensuring compliance with MyMichigan Health policies and regulatory requirements. An eligible $2,500 sign‑on bonus is available for a two‑year commitment.

Responsibilities
  • Triage all calls, schedule urgent/emergent add‑ons, receive and relay test results, support referrals and insurance pre‑certification.
  • Greet patients and families, perform routine pre‑examination procedures (vital signs, patient data collection), and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date patient records.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures, including injections, dressing changes, and blood specimen collection.
  • Prepare and clean patient area, set up equipment, dispose contaminated supplies, and sterilize instruments after use.
  • Order supplies and medications, manage inventory, and coordinate with other departments to ensure timely care.
  • Provide patient education, medication counseling, and coordinate continuity of care with other providers.
  • Perform additional clerical duties such as filing insurance forms, answering the telephone, and updating patient records.
Certifications & Licensures
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologist (AMT)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Equivalent credentials (e.g., Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or others). Preference for completion of an accredited program.
  • Medical First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (Basic/Specialist), or Paramedic (State of Michigan)
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Required certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire; Medical Assistant certification (MA CERT).

Education

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience, Training and Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • OSHA training completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
  • Knowledge of medical office policies, practices, and procedures; typically gained through 3–5 years of experience in a health‑care setting.
  • Previous experience in a physician clinic setting is preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
  • Capacity to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., latex or alternatives).
  • Physical ability to move freely throughout the facility, stand, walk, and perform tasks such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Resistance to blood‑borne pathogens; compliance with MyMichigan Health blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing protocols.
  • Regular attendance, punctuality, and the capacity to remain alert and active during the workday.
  • Physical demand: light; lifting or carrying 11–20 lbs. 0–33% of the day, 10 lbs. 34–66% of the day, with occasional lifting of arm/leg controls.
Other Information
  • Must demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.
  • May be required to travel to satellite clinics.
