Nemours is seeking a MA through our Co-Op partnership in Wilmington, DE.
This position is for a part-time MA through our Co-Op partnership.
Essential Functions:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is an important liaison between the patient/family, provider, and other care team members. The MA is responsible for coordinating patient flow by assisting in clinical data collection and review for patient intake, ensuring the appropriate information is available to the provider, and entering pertinent history in the medical record. The MA performs and assists with clinical procedures in accordance with divisional/department responsibilities as directed by the provider and per protocol. The MA is cross trained to perform designated business processes associated with an outpatient visit ensuring that all demographic and financial information is accurate. The MA acts as a resource and provides cross coverage as needed, as well as serves as a coach and mentor to new medical assistant associates.
- Greets patients and families at the clinical setting according to Nemours Standards of Behavior.
- Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
- Prepares exam rooms, clinic equipment and computer technology by maintaining inventory and supplies for the outpatient visit.
- Rooms patient ensuring appropriate documents are with the patient, including required diagnostic reports.
- Receives, unpacks, stores, inventories, and transports non-controlled substance medications.
- Performs clinical duties to support the outpatient visit including, but not limited to:
- Obtain and document height, weight, head circumference, and vital signs.
- Documents reason for visit, chief complaint, and initiates orders as appropriate.
- Performs phlebotomy to obtain blood specimens, labels, and arranges transportation.
- Assists with patient examination/treatment.
- Performs and documents point of care testing.
- Administers and documents vaccines and approved medications as ordered.
- Operates required medical equipment.
- Accepts delegated tasks from nursing colleagues within their scope of service.
- Performs tasks associated with Nemours’ outpatient business front desk functions, including:
- Making confirmation calls to ensure visits are in “confirmed” status.
- Ensuring all patient insurance information is loaded and up to date.
- At check-in, confirming demographic info, patient ID, guardianship, referral info, and collecting necessary documents.
- Scanning insurance cards and other documents.
- Collecting and posting co-pays and balances.
- Scheduling follow-up appointments using iGuide.
- Communicates with clinical staff regarding patient wait times and updates patients/families accordingly.
- Reconciles payments accurately and completes End of Day reports.
- Completes assigned work queues daily.
- Maintains inventory and the cleanliness of the work environment and waiting area.
- Facilitates use of the Nemours App with families.
- Maintains proficiency with electronic systems including scheduling, cancellations, order entry, and insurance verifications.
Job Requirements:
- Currently in the senior year of high school enrolled in a Vo-tech program.
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or certification through an alternate pathway.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
