Job Summary
Provides assistance with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a registered nurse or provider (physician or advanced practice provider).
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
- Assists with treatments ordered by provider and performs selected clinical duties under supervision.
- Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information in patient charts; prepares examination rooms.
- Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing.
- Manages supplies, ordering and stocking; assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
- Documents provider encounters, including diagnoses, symptoms, follow‑up instructions, and prescriptions; transcribes lab, radiology, and medication orders.
- Maintains constant alertness and works safely.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education
- High school diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
- Wisconsin residents: high school diploma/GED plus graduation from a medical assistant school or equivalent training program for certification.

Physical Requirements
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech for oral communication.
- Frequent hearing to distinguish body sounds or alarms.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects 0–25 lbs.
- Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent vision for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances and color identification.
- Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, squatting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional vision for judging distances and spatial relationships.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects 25–50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving patients.
- Occasional odor detection.
- Occasional driving.
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA)
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
- Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health Association (AAH)
- Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) – American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
