Job summary

Behavioral Health Network (BHN) is hiring a Medical Assistant to support BHN’s Outpatient Psychiatry program. The position involves clinical and administrative duties, vital signs, and coordination with prescribers, pharmacies, and laboratories in a fast-paced clinic.

Requires a Medical Assistant certificate or degree and at least one year of psychiatric or behavioral-health experience, plus familiarity with electronic health records and related software. On-site shifts only.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site clinical and administrative support to psychiatrists and patients.
  • Measure and document vital signs and communicate with providers.
  • Coordinate prescription workflows including prior authorizations.
  • Manage laboratory orders and monitoring for prescribed meds.
  • Maintain databases and care plans in the EHR.
  • Coordinate with residential, care-management, primary-care, pharmacy and labs for care continuity.
  • Document services and medication activity in the EHR promptly.
  • Maintain medical supplies and ensure safety and OSHA compliance.
  • Assist onboarding of new prescribers and system training.
  • Deliver responsive customer service and maintain on-site attendance.

What You Will Do
  • Provide on-site clinical and administrative support to psychiatrists, APRNs, and individuals receiving care through BHN's Outpatient Psychiatry program.
  • Measure and document vital signs, including blood pressure, and communicate relevant clinical information to prescribing providers.
  • Coordinate prescription and refill workflows, medication changes and dosage confirmations, medication prior authorizations, and pharmacy communication using approved electronic systems.
  • Manage laboratory orders and results, including submitting electronic orders, following up with laboratories, and supporting required monitoring for prescribed medications.
  • Maintain accurate databases and workflows for Rogers Orders, Clozaril monitoring, VNA nursing care plans, MassPAT reports, refill requests, prior authorizations, and letter requests.
  • Coordinate with residential, care-management, primary-care, pharmacy, laboratory, and other treatment partners to support appointments, refills, lab work, referrals, and continuity of care.
  • Document services, communications, medication-related activity, and other clinical support accurately and promptly in the electronic health record and memo-to-chart functions.
  • Maintain medical supplies, equipment, and medication samples; dispose of biohazardous waste properly; and follow all OSHA and clinic safety standards.
  • Support the onboarding of new prescribers and provide technical assistance with CareLogic, DrFirst, and other clinical systems and workflows.
  • Deliver responsive customer service, maintain punctual and regular on-site attendance, manage competing priorities, and complete other duties needed to support efficient clinic operations.
Who You Are
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Medical Assistant certificate or degree required.
  • At least one year of experience working with a psychiatric or behavioral-health population required.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records required, along with the ability to learn and use additional clinical and administrative software applications.
  • Ability to accurately obtain blood pressure and other vital signs and review and understand medication dosages and instructions.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, email, internet applications, and electronic communication systems.
  • Excellent customer-service, organizational, time-management, detail-orientation, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the judgment to recognize when consultation with a provider, supervisor, or colleague is needed.
  • Demonstrated cultural responsiveness and willingness to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with complex or challenging needs.
  • Ability to work all assigned shifts on site in the clinic and meet the physical requirements of the role, including regular standing, walking, and sitting and lifting or carrying up to five pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
