Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Medical Assistant Certified (MA) position is responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of patients under the direct supervision of the clinical or administrative leadership. This position assists providers in patient care, including examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes. It also involves performing administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, government standards, and company policies. The MA participates in patient care under the direction of a physician and within the scope of a medical assistant. Additionally, the role may include scheduling appointments, ensuring medical necessity compliance, and verifying eligibility for care.

Responsibilities

- Communicate with patients, document vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, and medical/social histories in the EMR
- Follow up with patients to ensure compliance and proper utilization of services like MyChart
Contribute to patient satisfaction and department quality improvement effortsQUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Prepare treatment rooms, assist with equipment and supplies, and maintain safety and privacy standards
- Report patient observations and collaborate on quality and safety activities
- Sterilize instruments and contribute to safety and quality initiatives
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Stock exam rooms, manage inventory, and use resources efficiently

Qualifications
EDUCATION- High School diploma or equivalent (GED, homeschool verification, post-secondary completion, etc.)
WORK EXPERIENCE- Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting or one year in the Novice-II position
License/Certification
REQUIRED- RMA, CMA (NAHP, NCCT, NHA), CAAMA, CCMA, EMT, or BLS certification from approved agencies
PREFERRED- CPT Phlebotomy Technician Certification
KSA/ Supplemental Data
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Competency in safe patient care, communication, medical procedures, and documentation
- Proficiency in English and computer skills
- Commitment to ongoing training and certification maintenance
