Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides assistance in the health care clinic by preparing patients for examination and performing various clerical duties related to clinic activities. Under supervision of the Office Supervisor/Manager, is responsible for support functions in the office as they relate to medical assistants. May function as a receptionist, medical assistant, or lab assistant when necessary or assigned, and may or may not be the primary responsibility.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Medical Assistant Program, or graduate of a formal medical assistant program with a minimum of five years of continuous work as a Medical Assistant with verifiable clinical experience.
  • Completion of a clinical externship.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.
  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
  • Successful completion of HFMG pharmacology class and test.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
  • Current BLS-C certificate.
  • One of the following certifications is required; failure to maintain certification/registration will result in termination:
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) eligible for Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA),
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT),
    • Certification by the National Healthcare Association (NHA) as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA),
    • Certification from the National Center for Competency Testing (CCT) as a National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA).
