Job summary

The Medical Assistant Apprentice position at Avera Pierre Clinic offers a full-time role while you complete Medical Assistant schooling and certification online through St. Ambrose University.

A three-year commitment to work as a Medical Assistant is required after certification. You will perform MA and clerical duties, document procedures, greet patients, assist with labs, and support education for patients and families.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent required.
• CCMA, CMA, RMA, or NCMA certification within 2 years.
• Ability to work full-time while attending online MA program for 4–6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assists in care to patients as directed by provider based on competency.
• Provides accurate, completed, legible and timely documentation of all patient procedures in the medical record.
• Maintains timely flow of patients.
• Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests and educates on procedures, medications, nutrition and wellness.
• Greets patients and conducts clinical interview collecting history and vital signs.
• Labels and processes lab specimens according to lab procedures.
• Maintains exam room with supplies and performs environmental cleaning and sterilization as required.
• Back-up help for front desk tasks including scheduling and phone management.
