Job summary

University of Utah Health seeks a patient-focused Medical Assistant in a trainee role to support clinicians and learning during clinical training hours. The incumbent assists with patient prep, clerical duties, and basic procedures under supervision, while completing mandatory education and safety training.

The position requires concurrent enrollment in a Medical Assisting program, and completion of an MA Apprenticeship Repayment Agreement.

Qualifications

• Availability to work variable and rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
• Ability to withstand the physical demands of standing, lifting, and moving patients or equipment.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examinations and procedures; records vital signs and medical history.
• Reports patient concerns to licensed staff.
• Performs CLIA waived lab tests and reports results.
• Assists with injections, suture removal, and other procedure support.
• Acts as a chaperone and supports clinicians during exams.
• Maintains patient rooms and equipment; restocks supplies as needed.
• Handles routine clerical tasks and filing of medical information.
