The University of Miami UHealth – Gastroenterology Satellites at SoLé Mia has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Assistant, Full Time position.

The Medical Assistant 1 (U) performs multi-skilled tasks to assist with patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The Medical Assistant 1 (U) provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.

• Communicates clearly and in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members.

• Learns and utilizes available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent information.

• Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines.
• Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami’s standards.

• Abides by the standards for ethical behavior and protecting the privacy of patient information.
• Assists providers with physical examinations.
• Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis.
• Prepares patients for physician’s care.
• Performs vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient’s medical record.
• Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments.
• Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms.
• Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
• Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies.
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Required High School diploma or equivalent and graduate from accredited Medical Assistant Program.

Certification and Licensing:

• Required Medical Assistant certification
• Required Phlebotomy certification
• Required an active and current BLS provider card by the American Heart Association

Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
• Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
