Position Summary:
The Medical Office Assistant is responsible for performing general clinical and clerical functions in a proficient, organized and confidential manner. The Medical Office Assistant provides support to the patients, providers, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, as well as other essential office personnel. The Medical Office Assistant provides a gracious customer friendly atmosphere.
Primary responsibilities:
- Basic interview of patients to obtain and update their medical history, gathers information regarding the purpose of their visit, and takes vital signs
- Supports patient care by performing testing such as urine pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and fetal non-stress tests. Explains tests and procedures to the patient. Documents services rendered and submits charges when appropriate
- Prepares patient charts prior to their appointment. Obtains records from other medical providers. Sends tasks for authorization from insurance as needed
- May conduct initial OB and post-partum phone calls. May conduct mammogram follow-up
- Opens, closes, cleans, and stocks exam rooms on a daily basis
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments by running them through the autoclave and using sterilizing disinfectants
- Arranges examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Chaperones clinical exams when necessary
Required skills/education:
- HS diploma or equivalent
- Valid NYS driver’s license
- Need to have some experience with taking vital signs! Heart rate, blood pressure, weight, etc.
- Word processing and computer experience
- Possess the tact necessary to deal effectively with physicians, staff and patients
- Be able to motivate other employees within the environment
- Demonstrate the ability to think clearly and make judgmental decisions in participating in the development of office policies and procedures
Nice to have:
- Vocational/technical training
- Prior experience in a medical office setting
- Phlebotomy experience
- CPR Certification

- Regular part-time, 20 hours per week or full-time, 40 hours per week
- Monday – Friday day shift
- Hourly range $17.00-21.00 per hour

- Ability to operate telephone system, simple lab equipment , computer system.
