Job summary

Metro Healthy Communities in Tampa, FL seeks a licensed Medical Assistant to provide direct nursing services at a Metro Health Center location as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will perform intake, venipuncture, injections, vaccinations, and documentation in the EMR, while delivering health education and maintaining HIPAA-compliant records.

The ideal candidate has MA licensure, 1 year phlebotomy and 1 year of injection administration experience, strong communication skills, and bilingual

Responsibilities

  • Performs medical intake procedures including vital signs, medical history review, and risk assessments.
  • Records and reports symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient’s conditions.
  • Completes physician orders including venipuncture, lab draws, injections, vaccinations, and other injections.
  • Documents all patient care in EMR in a timely, accurate manner per Nursing Department protocols.
  • Provides health education counseling for all patients.
  • Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA and other guidelines.
  • Reviews patient charts to ensure documentation is complete and current for visits.
  • Collaborates with METRO team to coordinate patient services.
  • Uses resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Assists in all clinical areas within scope of practice as needed.
  • Conduct HIV/HCV and STI testing in office.
  • Documents all performed services in EMR and maintains timely documentation of contacts.
  • Work with providers and treatment team to ensure on-site access to care.
  • Maintain organized records and forms per HIPAA and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Statement of Purpose

This position will be based primarily on-site at a Metro Health Center location, working in a unique community-based setting where we are providing Primary Care and additional supportive services. This position provides direct nursing services and procedures to patients; works as part of a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient quality of life though competent medical intervention; and ensures all documentation is compliance with professional and legal standards.

Primary Tasks/Responsibilities
  • Performs medical intake procedures including taking vital signs, reviewing medical history, and completing risk assessments.
  • Records and reports symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient’s conditions.
  • Completes all physician orders including venipuncture lab draws, medication administration, vaccinations, injectables, etc.
  • Documents all patient care in an accurate, timely, legible manner in compliance with Nursing Department protocols.
  • Completes health education counseling for all patients.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and/or family in accordance with established protocols.
  • Reviews charts of patients to ensure all necessary documentation is present, current, and complete to facilitate and triage visit.
  • Collaborates with METRO team members to coordinate patient services.
  • Utilize resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Provides assistance in all clinical areas within scope of practice, as needed.
  • Conduct HIV/HCV and STI testing in office.
  • Complete accurate and immediate documentation of all performed services in electronic medical records system, along with ongoing timely documentation of all patient contacts and communication.
  • Work succinctly with medical providers, members of patient’s treatment team, and other agency personnel to ensure patients’ seamless access to onsite treatment.
  • Maintain required records, files, and forms in an organized manner and in accordance with HIPAA and other state, local, and federal guidelines
  • Other relevant related duties as assigned.
Bilingual strongly preferred (English/Spanish)
Education/Professional
  • MA licensure from accredited school OR equivalent experience/training.
  • 1 year Phlebotomy experience
  • 1 year administering injections

  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and proof of insurance
  • Must have reliable and accessible auto vehicle.
