Job summary

Turner Dermatology is seeking a Medical Assistant/Receptionist to support clinical and clerical operations in a busy dermatology practice. This full-time, on-site role involves coordinating patient flow, documenting histories, assisting with procedures, and handling billing and insurance tasks.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of MA experience, strong communication skills, and a patient-centered approach.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting or completed relevant college coursework.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage patients with professionalism and care.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to handle high- pressure situations with discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity.
  • Prior dermatology experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical: Record and update patient histories in EMR, prepare patients for examinations, assist physicians during procedures, maintain medical records, explain instructions to patients, handle specimens, sterilize instruments, manage room and equipment, control inventory, and maintain cleanliness.
  • Administrative: Answer calls, schedule appointments, greet and check in patients, verify insurance, manage patient records, handle emails and portal communications, assist with billing forms, and collect payments.

Medical Assistant/Receptionist Non-Exempt | Full-Time Reports to: Office Manager Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking candidate who is eager to immerse themselves in dermatology and contribute to a collaborative medical practice. The Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day delivery of patient care and practice operations. This position reports directly to the Office Manager.

The ideal candidate is a versatile team player who fosters positive and effective relationships with providers and co-workers, while maintaining a strong focus on patient-centered care and delivering exceptional patient experiences. An excellent candidate may also be a pre‑med student or someone planning PA/NP/nursing school attending night classes, looking to gain valuable clinical experience. This individual will work closely with physicians (MDs) and fellow medical assistants to perform a combination of administrative, clerical, and clinical duties within a dermatology office, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities:
Clinical
  • Patient History: Accurately record and update patient medical histories using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during procedures.
  • Documentation: Transcribe and maintain accurate medical records using EMR applications.
  • Patient Communication: Clearly explain certain instructions to ensure patients feel informed and comfortable.
  • Specimen Handling: Assist in preparation of laboratory specimens, ensuring proper handling and processing.
  • Sanitation: Dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical instruments as required.
  • Equipment Management: Arrange and maintain examination room instruments and equipment.
  • Inventory Control: Manage inventory by ordering supplies, verifying receipts, and auditing stock levels.
  • Sterilization: Perform sterilization of surgical instruments using an autoclave.
  • Room Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of waiting and examination rooms.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to medical record standards through accurate and thorough documentation.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other clerical and clinical duties to support provider productivity and clinic workflow.
Administrative
  • Call Management: Answer incoming calls and respond to voicemails in a timely and professional manner.
  • Scheduling: Schedule and confirm patient appointments, ensuring efficient time management.
  • Patient Interaction: Greet and check in patients, verify insurance, and confirm the purpose of each visit.
  • Record Keeping: Update and maintain patient medical records as needed.
  • Correspondence: Manage emails and direct patient portal communications to provider.
  • Billing: Record billing information, complete insurance forms, and respond to insurance-related inquiries.
  • Payment Collection: Collect patient payments and manage related financial transactions.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting, or completion of relevant college coursework including pre‑medical coursework encouraged(e.g., Human Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Clinical Practices in Healthcare).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage patients with professionalism and care.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to handle high- pressure situations with discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in operating a computer, keyboard, iPad, printer, and office phone systems.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and medical terminology.
  • Prior dermatology experience is preferred but not required.
