Medical Assistant

Medical Associates of Erie is seeking a reliable medical assistant to guarantee that each patient visit and the logistical arrangements surrounding the visit are carried out with courtesy, caring and consistency, while assisting the physician in patient care and education

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in patient care in the exam room as directed by physician
  • Perform clinical procedures under supervision of physician
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient’s electronic health record
  • Interview patients to make sure all information in electronic medical record is complete and current, including obtaining all necessary signed authorizations
  • Review medical record for progress notes, specialist templates and diagnostic records prior to patient visit. Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed, if available, in patient’s electronic health record. (pre-visit planning/chart prep)
  • Schedule tests, surgical procedures and coordinate referrals to provide continuous care for patients
  • Obtain all necessary authorizations as mandated by patient’s insurance
  • Track referrals for the practice to completion (report/result received and patient notified)
  • Perform lab draws, EKG’s and administer injections.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers regarding medication and treatment protocol as instructed by physician
  • Keep exam rooms and medication storage room stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
  • Triage for urgency and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians
  • Provide response to patient inquiry and concerns with attention to confidentiality
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)
  • Keep patients in waiting area informed of any unusual delays in physicians’ schedule
  • All other duties as assigned
