Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to provide clinical support to patients and assist care providers with routine clinical and administrative tasks.

This 0.8 FTE position covers Briargate Outpatient Specialty Care with a 32-hour workweek and a Monday–Friday schedule; shifts 0730–1700; benefits available.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant Program.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for health care visits; directs to examining room and provides gowns and drapes.
  • Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
  • Serves as preceptor for new staff including orientation and skill validation.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment; follows standards and procedures.
  • Verifies patient information; records medical history and vital signs; reports concerns.
  • Assists providers during examinations; prepares lab specimens; performs basic testing; medications per policy.
  • Balances workloads and coordinates clinic flow; monitors patient flow.
  • Provides phlebotomy; completes lab follow-up and medical record documentation.
  • Prepares and completes medical records for visits; assists with MyChart enrollment.
  • Implements patient education; initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.

Education

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

Additional Information
  • Location/Dept: Briargate Outpatient Specialty Care. Float Position to 15+ clinics
  • Job Details: 0.8 FTE; 32 hours/week - eligible for benefits
  • Shift: variable times and days 0730-1700 Eight hour shifts, Monday through Friday
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.
  • Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
  • Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
  • Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
  • Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.
  • Provides phlebotomy.
  • Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
  • Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient "MyChart" enrollment.
  • Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
  • Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • High School diploma or GED
  • Area of Study
    • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Experience
    • Required: None. Pediatric Experience preferred
  • Equivalency
    • One year of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Basic Life Support
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $20.25 to $28.77
