Job summary

Children’s Colorado Medical Assistant provides essential clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative tasks at the South Campus. The role involves direct patient care, phlebotomy, specimen handling, and coordinating with providers to ensure smooth clinic flow.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or one year of direct health care experience in lieu of formal MA training,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Equivalency: One year of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for visits by directing to the examining room, providing gowns, and arranging instruments; conducts quality checks.
  • Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
  • Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, validation, tracking and progress monitoring.
  • Maintains a safe, secure environment by following standards and procedures and complying with regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and protects operations by handling patient information securely.
  • Verifies patient information, records medical history, takes vital signs, and reports concerns to the care provider.
  • Assists providers during examinations, prepares lab specimens, performs basic testing, disposes of contaminated supplies, and helps with sterilization of instruments.
  • Administers medications per policy and procedures; telephones prescriptions to pharmacies; supports patient care delivery within scope.
  • Coordinates clinic flow and balances workloads by monitoring patient flow with providers.
  • Provides phlebotomy services.
  • Completes lab test follow-up and medical record documentation.
  • Prepares and completes medical records for visits and assists with MyChart enrollment.
  • Educates patients with written instructions and answers questions as directed by the provider.
  • Initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations independently.

Job description

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

Additional Information
  • Location: South Campus
  • Shift: 7:30am - 5:00pm with occasional Saturday clinic requirement
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.
  • Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
  • Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
  • Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
  • Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.
  • Provides phlebotomy.
  • Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
  • Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment.
  • Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
  • Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION –High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

EQUIVALENCY– One year of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program.

CERTIFICATION(S) -BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR.

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Hourly Range: $19.18 to $28.77
