Job summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) at Children's Hospital Colorado provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with both clinical and administrative duties in the HP Child Health Clinic. The role includes cross-training to another primary care clinic and helping in the walk‑in flu clinic.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, taking vitals, assisting during exams, phlebotomy, lab follow-ups, documenting records, and supporting patient education.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • None required. Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers / CPR

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
  • Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.
  • Provides phlebotomy.
  • Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
  • Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient "MyChart" enrollment.
  • Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
  • Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
  • Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
  • Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.

Job Overview

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

Location/Department: HP Child Health Clinic. Will be required to cross train to another primary care clinic and help in walk‑in flu clinic.

Job Details: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours/week - eligible for benefits

Shift: Monday through Friday, variable hours between 8:00AM and 6:30PM. Typically no nights, weekends, or major holidays.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
  • Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
  • Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.

  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Experience
    • None required. Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers / CPR
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $20.25 to $28.77
