Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora seeks a Medical Assistant to provide clinical support, assist care teams, and coordinate clinic flow across Southeast Aurora and South Campus locations.

This flex position requires a high school diploma or MA program graduation, BLS/CPR certification, and the ability to cover shifts 7:30am–5pm with at least 24 hours per pay period, including float between clinics.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • One year healthcare experience may substitute for MA graduation
  • BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration

Responsibilities

  • Maintains professional boundaries and collaborates effectively within the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Manages general office tasks such as phone and fax communication.
  • Serves as preceptor for onboarding new staff, including training, skill validation, and progress monitoring.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and compliant work environment by following and enforcing protocols and regulations.
  • Protects patient confidentiality and upholds all professional and organizational standards.
  • Prepares patients for visits by escorting them to exam rooms, providing gowns, and setting up instruments and supplies.
  • Interviews patients, reviews medical history, takes vital signs, and confirms visit purpose; reports concerns to care provider.
  • Assists providers with exams and procedures; prepares specimens, performs basic tests, administers medications, and ensures proper instrument cleaning.
  • Coordinates clinic flow by balancing workloads, monitoring patient movement, and communicating with providers.
  • Performs phlebotomy and ensures timely follow-up on lab tests and documentation.
  • Records patient data, treatments, and results in the medical record; assists with MyChart enrollment.
  • Provides standardized patient education as directed by the provider.
  • Initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations independently.

Job Overview

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

Additional Information
  • Location: Southeast Aurora and South Campus locations (based on needs of department)
  • Job Details: Flex - not eligible for benefits
  • Shift: Monday - Friday between 7:30am and 5pm.
    • Minimum availability of 24 hours per pay period
    • Flexibility to cover full-day or half-day shifts based on departmental needs
    • Ability to float between specialty clinics as needed
    • Ability to float between Southeast Aurora and South Campus locations based on departmental needs

Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • High School diploma or GED
  • Area of Study
    • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Equivalency
    • One year experience in health care may substitute for Medical Assistant graduation.
  • Licenses & Certification
    • BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $23.76
