Job description

We are on the hunt for strong media relations specialists and media strategist to add to our contractor bench. Hotwire engages with contractors on an as-needed basis. This is not a full-time or part-time employee role. Building a bench of strong talent allows us to tap into specific skillsets and industry knowledge aligning to a wide array of client needs.

About you...

You’re a seasoned media strategist and relationship builder who thrives on crafting compelling stories and securing impactful coverage. Whether it’s shaping thought leadership for a CEO or generating buzz for a new product category, you know how to connect the right message with the right journalist. You're energized by variety, able to jump into different client challenges across industries, and love being a go-to resource when the team needs targeted media support. This is a contract-based role we tap into as business needs arise — perfect for someone who values flexibility and likes making an immediate impact.

About us...

We are the pre-eminent global tech communications consultancy. We are a group of expert communicators who are fanatical about tech and are here to help businesses ignite their possibilities. Our local experience and global scale allow us to deliver bold but pragmatic comms guidance to tech companies all over the world.

When you work with us, we connect and support you in a way that allows you to achieve limitless success and career growth. For years now, we’ve been named a Best Place to Work by PR Week, PRNews and Crain’s New York.

We are connected, ambitious, adventurous, transparent and proactive, but most of all we are one team working together to be the global alternative.

About the role…

This temporary contractor role will operate at a Vice President level within the business, running several account teams at once and taking responsibility for client and internal team satisfaction. You may also partner with other senior leaders on specific accounts or projects. While a few internal meetings may be required each week, the main focus will be on client relations and account management.

You will drive strategy and programs, own relationships, attend internal and client meetings, pitch ideas, scope new projects, provide counsel and troubleshoot when things don’t go to plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic media counsel across a range of client accounts, as needed
  • Draft media strategies, plans, and executive visibility approaches
  • Secure earned coverage by leveraging existing media relationships and smart, relevant outreach
  • Review and elevate briefing documents, narratives, and press materials
  • Contribute to creative media angles and storytelling opportunities that align with business goals
  • Lead or support media outreach for campaigns, launches, announcements, and executive positioning
  • Serve as an advisor to internal teams on how to break through media roadblocks or strengthen pitches
  • Share ongoing insights and trends from key trade and tier-one media outlets

You’ll Bring:

  • 6+ years of media relations experience, ideally within PR agencies or fast-paced communications teams
  • A proven track record of securing top-tier and trade media coverage in B2B tech sectors (e.g., cybersecurity, enterprise SaaS, digital commerce, infrastructure, fintech)
  • Strong relationships across business and tech media — and the instinct to build new ones strategically
  • Experience advising C-suite executives on media engagement and public presence
  • Clear, compelling writing skills and a confident presence in front of clients
  • A flexible, collaborative approach and comfort working independently
  • Familiarity with tools like Muck Rack, Cision, or similar media databases

Compensation: Hotwire will partner with consultants to confirm an hourly rate for consulting services based on scope of work and experience.
