Job summary

Saint Peter’s Healthcare System seeks a Med-Surg Float Pool RN for per diem day shifts. The role involves assessing patients, planning and delivering care, and guiding the health team in alignment with NJ Board of Nursing standards.

The RN will educate patients and families, prepare for discharge, document care, and participate in safety and quality activities, with a focus on Magnet-designated nursing excellence.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
• BSN preferred or must be obtained within three (3) years of hire date.
• BLS certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
• ECG course obtained during clinical orientation.

Responsibilities

• Assess the health status of assigned patients according to Nursing Standards.
• Plan, implement and evaluate individualized care based on assessments and the Plan of Care.
• Provide direct patient care or supervision to health team members to ensure proper care.
• Educate patients and families about health state and plan of care.
• Ensure patients are prepared for discharge and home care needs.
• Document all aspects of patient care and maintain standards of care.

The Med Surg Float Pool RN Per Diem Days will:

• Assess the health status of assigned patients as outlined in the Nursing Standards.
• Plan, implement and evaluate individualized care based on patient assessment and Multi-Disciplinary Plan of Care.
• Provide direct patient care or direction and supervision to other health team members to ensure proper implementation of care in accordance with the requirements of the NJ Board of Nursing, current regulatory guidelines, the ANA Code of Ethics and institutional policies and procedures.
• Teach patient/significant others about health/illness state and plan of care.
• Ensure that patient/significant others are prepared for discharge and health maintenance in the home setting.
• Ensure all procedures are performed based on established Standards of Care. Demonstrate competency in performing all procedures within own scope of practice, in accordance with the requirements of the N.J. Board of Nursing, current regulatory guidelines, and the ANA Code of Ethics as appropriate to the ages of the patients growth and development through the life cycle. (Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics) Understand and implement the range of treatment needed by these patients.
• Document all aspects of patient care.
• Be knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures.
• Maintain supplies and equipment.
• Administer medications and parenteral therapies in accordance with SPUH policies.
• Maintain patient safety, comfort and cleanliness.
• Assume leadership role which is consistent with scope of practice.
• Report all necessary information and/or unusual occurrences in accordance with established SPUH policies and procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of and participates in Nursing Quality Improvement Activities.
• Serve productively in Hospital/Divisional/Unit organization.
• Use problem-solving methods to resolve issues that impact upon Nursing care.
• Participate in education and development activities and maintains professional credentialing.
• Participate in Unit orientation programs.
• Participate as a reviewer in the peer review process.

Requirements

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey

Salary Range: 57.00 - 57.00 USD

We offer competitive base rates that are determined by many factors, including job-related work experience, internal equity, and industry-specific market data. In addition to base salary, some positions may be eligible for clinical certification pay and shift differentials. The salary range listed for exempt positions reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated based on employment status.
