Med Coding Analyst

Position Summary: The University of New Mexico Student Health & Counseling Clinic (SHAC) is recruiting a detail‑oriented Medical Coding Analyst to coordinate the processing of fees for professional services provided to patients within a specified group of clinical areas for reimbursement. The role analyzes patient medical records to ensure documentation by providers conforms to legal and procedural requirements, assigns codes to medical diagnoses and/or clinical procedures, and interacts with physicians and other providers regarding billing and documentation policies.

The Student Health & Counseling Center is located at the center of campus. It provides comprehensive primary and mental health services, and includes a laboratory, x‑ray, pharmacy, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, case management, and health promotion on site. Other medical services offered are same‑day appointments, travel medicine, immunizations, and sports medicine.

Location: Albuquerque, NM. Employment Type: Staff, Regular – Full‑Time. Campus: Main. Department: Student Health and Counseling (037A).

Pay: Hourly $24.00 – $30.00 (depending on experience). Benefits Eligible: This is a benefits‑eligible position. UNM offers medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with tuition remission and dependent education programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in medical coding and billing.
  • Experience working with insurance claims and denials.

Background Check Required: Yes. As a condition of employment, eligible employees working greater than 0.25 FTE as determined by the New Mexico Education Retirement Act must make mandatory retirement contributions.
