Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Student Health & Counseling clinic (SHAC) is recruiting for a detail‑oriented Medical Coding Analyst to coordinate the processing of fees for professional services provided to patients within specified clinical areas for reimbursement. The role analyzes patient medical records to ensure that documentation by providers conforms to legal and procedural requirements and assigns codes to medical diagnoses and clinical procedures. The analyst also interacts with physicians and other providers regarding billing and documentation policies and procedures.

SHAC is located at the center of campus and provides comprehensive primary and mental health services, including a laboratory, x‑ray, pharmacy, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, case management, and health promotions on site. Additional services include same‑day appointments, travel medicine, immunizations, and sports medicine.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in medical coding and billing
• Experience in working with insurance claims and denials
