Position serves as a County Maintenance Engineer for Mecklenburg County. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising and directing various aspects of Highway Maintenance operations including DOT staff and purchase order contract construction. Respond to inquiries from the public, DOT Management, Media, etc., regarding DOT policies and procedures, division projects, plans and proposed work. Position has Emergency Call Back status and must be able to respond to Highway emergencies and work during inclement weather events. Considerable knowledge of the use and operation of all field and office engineering instruments; ability to understand, explain and administer contracts; ability to interpret plans, provisions and specifications; ability to interpret policies and regulations; and the ability to establish working relationship between the department and citizens.
Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle to perform essential job duties. These responsibilities include but are not limited to emergency response, inclement weather, attending meetings, training sessions, and monitoring activities of field maintenance operations.
Salary Grade: NC21 Salary Range: $70,627 - $137,724

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
