Job summary

Infowaysolutions in Cupertino, CA is seeking a Mechanical & Thermal Battery Test Engineer to develop and implement methodologies for characterizing battery materials, cells, and modules. The role focuses on validating designs, defining test strategies, and delivering data-driven insights for safety and performance compliance.

The successful candidate will design test protocols, plan mechanical abuse and thermal tests, and work with external labs to close capability gaps.

Qualifications

• MS in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field with 3+ years experience, or BS with 5+ years experience.
• Experience developing mechanical and thermal characterization methodologies for lithium-ion batteries, cells, modules, or packs.
• Strong understanding of battery reliability, safety, and performance testing.
• Familiarity with battery testing standards (UL, IEC, SAE, ISO, UN38.3).
• Knowledge of instrumentation, sensors, thermocouples, strain gauges, data acquisition systems, and test automation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and validate test methodologies for mechanical, thermal, and reliability performance of battery materials, components, cells, and modules.
• Design test protocols, procedures, and validation standards for battery-level performance assessment.
• Plan and execute mechanical abuse, thermal, environmental, and durability testing programs.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to define test objectives, acceptance criteria, and validation requirements.
• Work with external laboratories and testing partners to address capability gaps and establish new testing methods.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and safety regulations for battery testing.
• Analyze test data, identify failure mechanisms, and provide technical recommendations to support engineering decisions.
• Prepare comprehensive test reports and present findings to engineering and program teams.
• Support root cause investigations and correlation of physical test results with simulation and analytical models.
