Job summary

Veolia North America in Norfolk, VA seeks a Mechanical Technician II to assemble, fabricate and QA components for water treatment systems. You will work with stainless steel, CPVC, and PVC, operating ironworkers, band saws, drill presses, and forklifts.

You will mentor junior staff, enforce safety procedures, perform confined space entries, and maintain detailed production records to uphold fabrication standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3–4 years of mechanical fabrication experience.
  • Experience with fabrication equipment, blueprints/schematics, and BOMs.
  • Trade certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows EHS rules and produces quality work.
  • Trains and mentors Mechanical Technician I staff on techniques and safety.

Job Description

The Mechanical Technician II is tasked with the assembly, fabrication, and quality assurance of components essential for manufacturing specialized water treatment systems. This role involves executing intricate pipe‑fitting tasks using various materials including stainless steel, fiberglass, CPVC, and PVC. High‑level proficiency in operating specialized machinery‑such as ironworkers, band saws, drill presses, and forklifts‑is required. Beyond technical execution, the technician serves as a mentor to junior staff, ensures strict compliance with safety protocols, and performs confined space entries in specialized tank environments. Responsibilities also include maintaining detailed reports and production records to uphold high fabrication standards.

  • Perform self‑inspection to verify that all components are installed and match applicable drawings and sign QA documentation
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Follows all EHS rules and produces quality work.
  • Trains and mentors Mechanical Technician I staff on proper techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Expertly constructs metal and PVC piping spools with minimal supervision while strictly following all EHS and quality protocols.
  • Demonstrate problem‑solving skills and ability to identify problems
  • Ensures the continuous maintenance of 5S initiatives.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to ensure all installed components align with the relevant engineering drawings in support of quality assurance documentation.

Required
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum 3- 4 years of experience as a Mechanical Technician I or equivalent mechanical fabrication experience
  • Experience in the fabrication of equipment using tools, blueprints/schematics, and bills of material.
Preferred
  • Trade ability to assemble piping & equipment to assembly and process drawings.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude: must be proficient in understanding basic pipe, and skid layout and assembly, use of hand and power tools
  • Demonstrated high‑quality work, initiative, and the ability to work unsupervised at times.
  • School certificate in mechanical trade or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Preference will be given to previous experience in manufacturing of large water treatment equipment.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to perform work with appropriate PPE for work (safety toed shoes, safety glasses, bump cap/hard hat, etc.)
  • The majority of the day will be spent standing with some bending and fine motor work appropriate for work in a fabrication shop.
  • Ability to operate power tools such as drills, grinders, and saws.
  • Some unassisted lifting up to 50 lbs. is required - nearly all heavy parts movement assisted with cranes/hoists and pallet jacks.

Compensation

Compensation - The salary range is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $20-24 USD.
