Mechanical Technician

Duration: 12 Months + Possible Extension
Pay Rate: $25.00/hr on W2
Location: Hallettsville, TX

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Technician to support field operations and maintenance activities at natural gas facilities. This role is responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating mechanical, measurement, instrumentation, and control equipment.

The position is primarily field-based and requires a strong commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, equipment reliability, and accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot meters, pressure regulators, control valves, relief valves, pneumatic control devices, RTUs, EGM systems, and gas analyzers.
  • Perform routine maintenance on gas odorizer systems, including setting injection rates and reporting usage and concentration.
  • Operate and maintain power supply systems.
  • Identify pipes, valves, and fittings using appropriate measurement devices.
  • Ensure electrical installations meet applicable codes and standards.
  • Install small-diameter instrument piping and tubing.
  • Use testing and inspection equipment to verify and calibrate instruments.
  • Operate and maintain in-line heaters.
  • Perform routine tests, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Complete maintenance, inspection, and other required reports accurately and completely.
  • Prepare and document gas-handling procedures.
  • Assist with routine measurement-related activities and provide basic guidance to contractors or less experienced employees when required.
  • Assist with work planning and provide information related to budgets and maintenance activities.
  • Support other operational functions as qualified, which may include electrical controls, equipment operations, measurement, telecommunications, mechanical maintenance, and operations activities.

  • Follow all company policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
  • Comply with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Actively participate in safety programs and maintain a strong safety-focused work environment.
  • Ensure equipment and facilities operate safely and reliably.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to abnormal conditions.
  • Maintain a cooperative and professional relationship with coworkers, contractors, and external parties.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of directly relevant training and/or experience.
  • Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Strong mechanical, technical, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and applicable codes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and assist with more complex equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office software applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with natural gas operations, pipeline facilities, or related energy infrastructure.
  • Experience with measurement and instrumentation equipment.
  • Experience with valves, regulators, gas analyzers, RTUs, EGM systems, pneumatic controls, or related equipment.
  • Interest in developing into a Measurement & Electrical Technician.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance and operational activities within gas facilities.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily field-based and outdoors, with some indoor office and training activities.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, shifts, on‑call, and standby schedules as required.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Candidates should reside within approximately 30 miles of the assigned reporting location or be willing to relocate.
Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

  • Lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Grasp, kneel, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Reach above shoulder level.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Work on uneven or slippery outdoor terrain.
  • Enter and exit excavations.
  • Ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and other equipment.
  • Read fine print and equipment displays and distinguish color coding.
  • Meet required visual and hearing capabilities for safe equipment operation.
