Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a Mechanical Technician II to support gas operations through testing, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of measurement, electrical, control, and related equipment.

This hands-on field role requires strong technical skills, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with coworkers, contractors, and other personnel.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of directly relevant training and experience.
  • Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, technical, and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of safety policies, procedures, and applicable requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and computer applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Test, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate meters, pressure regulators, control valves, relief valves, RTUs, EGM systems, gas analyzers, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on gas odorizers, including injection rate adjustments and monitoring.
  • Operate and maintain power supply systems and in-line heaters.
  • Inspect electrical installations for compliance with applicable codes and requirements.
  • Install and maintain small-diameter instrument piping and tubing.
  • Use test and inspection equipment to verify and calibrate instrumentation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Accurately document work performed, test results, inspections, and equipment conditions.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Assist with gas handling procedures, work planning, and budget-related activities.
  • Provide basic guidance to contractors or less-experienced employees when needed.
  • Support additional activities related to electrical controls, equipment operation, measurement, telecommunications, mechanical maintenance, and operations.

This role involves regular standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motions, and working outdoors on uneven or slippery terrain. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., safely enter/exit excavations, and climb ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and other access devices.
