Job summary

TC Energy in Indiana is seeking an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Controls or Measurement Technician to support our Sulphur Springs Area facilities. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and operate natural gas measurement equipment and compressor station control systems.

You must be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and communicate effectively. The role requires safety training, DOT compliance, and willingness to respond to 24/7 callouts as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a related industry.
  • Thorough understanding of SWA and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of engine mechanics.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor station, meter station, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system.
  • Oversee installation, start up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment such as meters, gauges, flow computers, transmitters, regulators, and controllers.
  • Perform routine maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Maintain power, process controls, PLCs, electric generation equipment, and related instrumentation.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain wiring, equipment, fixtures using hand and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems and locate causes of breakdowns.
  • Test electrical systems and circuits with ohmmeters, voltmeters, etc.
  • Review equipment documentation and serve as technical resource for facility.
  • Perform calibration and replacement of measurement and regulation equipment.
  • Keep DOT auditable records and reports.

The Opportunity

Our USGO Heartland Region, Sulphur Springs Area team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Portland, Indiana to support our electrical controls and instrumentation at our facilities throughout Indiana and the surrounding area.

We are seeking an experienced and/or multiskilled Electrical and Instrumentation Controls or Measurement Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas measurement equipment, compressor station control systems, and other related facilities.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent problem solving, communication, and decision-making skills.

What you'll do
  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor station, meter station, communication systems. and other facilities related to the pipeline system
  • Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment, such as: various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizers, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses, and fixtures, using hand and power tools
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, ensuring compliance with codes
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use
  • Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples
  • Work closely with field personnel to schedule and properly route gas in the event of pipeline right of way maintenance or an emergency repair to maintain delivery to internal and external customers
  • Locate pipelines per One Call and perform valve maintenance
  • Perform and witness hydrostatic tests that assure material integrity for operation and installation of facilities
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Other tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a related industry
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
  • Basic knowledge of engine mechanics
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree to include courses in engine maintenance or electricity/electronics
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls
  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment
  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems
  • Experience with PLC's, pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches and regulators
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents
