Project Manager – Mechanical
About the Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Mechanical to support capital improvement projects, plant modifications, and maintenance initiatives at a commercial nuclear generating station in Arizona. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced project manager with a strong mechanical construction background who enjoys leading complex projects in a highly regulated industrial environment.

This position offers a 4-day work week (Tuesday through Friday, 10-hour days) and $840 per week in per diem for qualified candidates residing more than 100 miles from the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.

Position Overview:

The Project Manager will lead mechanical projects from concept through completion, overseeing engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing, startup, and project closeout. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable regulatory and quality requirements.

This role works closely with engineering, maintenance, operations, construction contractors, and vendors to successfully execute complex capital projects throughout the facility.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical capital projects from planning through project closeout.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineering, construction, maintenance, operations, procurement, and contractor personnel.
  • Oversee projects involving:
    • Mechanical piping systems.
    • Underground utilities.
    • Pipeline installation.
    • Excavation and grading.
    • Welding and fabrication.
    • Structural modifications.
    • Mechanical equipment installation.
  • Coordinate engineering reviews, constructability reviews, procurement activities, and field execution.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, resource plans, and cash flow projections.
  • Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Manage contractors and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Coordinate outage activities and plant work windows.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, quality standards, plant procedures, and industry codes.
  • Review engineering packages, construction work packages, welding documentation, and project deliverables.
  • Lead project meetings, provide status updates, and communicate project performance to stakeholders.
  • Manage project documentation, change control, and closeout activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture while maintaining high standards of quality and human performance.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years of Project Management experience supporting mechanical, industrial, utility, construction, or commercial nuclear projects.
  • Strong background managing projects involving:
    • Mechanical piping systems.
    • Welding and fabrication.
    • Pipeline construction.
    • Underground utilities.
    • Excavation and grading.
    • Heavy industrial construction.
  • Experience managing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, contractor performance, and project risk.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
  • PMP certification.
  • Previous commercial nuclear power plant experience.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, plant modifications, equipment upgrades, and outage execution.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes, NRC regulations, quality assurance programs, and nuclear work processes.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, SAP, Maximo, or similar project management software.
  • Familiarity with welding procedures, piping specifications, construction drawings, and field engineering practices.
Preferred Industry Experience:
