Job summary

Atlas Copco in Auburn Hills, MI seeks a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead engineering projects from kickoff to customer plant acceptance. You will provide technical direction to internal engineering teams and external partners on mechanical design, assembly support, and startup activities.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in automated assembly systems, fastening applications, and a track record of delivering cost-effective, manufacturable solutions while aligning with customer

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSME) from an accredited four year college or university with 5 years Machine Design experience or 10+ years Machine Design experience.
  • Proven leadership skills in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must have project engineering experience.
  • Proficient working knowledge of SolidWorks.
  • Fastening experience with Nutrunner applications.

Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical engineering schedules throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and customer requirements.
  • Develop project engineering objectives by reviewing project proposals and project requirements while collaborating with engineering teams as needed.
  • Determines project specifications by evaluating customer products, operating environments, technical requirements, and applicable internal standards from similar projects.
  • Monitors and manages engineering budgets to ensure projects are completed within approved cost targets.
  • If project demands require, coordinate external engineering resources by developing RFQs, reviewing contractor quotations, and managing supplier costs to support project budget and schedule objectives.
  • Review engineering designs, drawings, and technical deliverables comply with customer specifications and company standards.
  • Ensure mechanical designs are updated to reflect customer revisions, manufacturing changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support equipment builds, system integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities as required.
  • Evaluate mechanical designs to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, risk reduction, manufacturability enhancements, and cost optimization while ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Contribute to departmental goals and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
