Job summary

Wordwizard is seeking a Mechanical Plumbing Engineer to join our established MEP team in New Jersey. The role focuses on design, analysis, coordination, and development of plumbing systems for commercial, industrial, healthcare, and institutional projects.

The successful candidate will design domestic water, sanitary, stormwater, gas, fire protection, and specialty piping, perform hydraulic calculations, prepare drawings and specs, and ensure code compliance.

Qualifications

• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license — Required.
• 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing/civil engineering principles and practices.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, Bluebeam, and Mathcad.
• Experience with project management and engineering coordination.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, in-person environment.

Responsibilities

• Design plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, stormwater, natural gas, fire protection, and specialty piping
• Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, pressure-loss and flow-rate calculations, equipment selection, and system layouts
• Prepare construction documents, drawings, specifications, and schedules
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including IPC, NSPC, IFGC, ASPE, and NFPA
• Coordinate with architectural, HVAC, electrical, and structural teams
• Participate in client/project meetings and communicate with project stakeholders
• Support technical reports, proposals, engineering studies, cost estimating, and scheduling
• Conduct site visits, inspections, and assessments
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction administration
• Mentor Junior Engineers and Designers
