Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Plumbing Engineer is responsible for leading the plumbing scope of projects from concept through construction. This role ensures that designs meet schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations while supporting company standards and mentoring junior staff.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Develop conceptual plumbing designs from verbal direction, sketches, or models; incorporate standard notes and details into construction documents.
  • Take ownership of plumbing scope, ensuring accuracy, schedule adherence, budget compliance, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction professionals to deliver integrated, client-focused solutions.
  • Participate in all project phases: conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Perform site surveys, inspections, and evaluations of existing conditions.
  • Apply working knowledge of relevant building codes and standards (IPC, ASPE, EPA, NFPA, OSHA, IAPMO, FDA and USDA sanitary design guidelines, 3-A Sanitary Standards for equipment and piping, etc.) in design development.
  • Prepare plumbing engineering drawings, specifications, and technical details.
  • Incorporate hygienic design principles, including stainless steel piping, air gaps, indirect waste, and CIP/SIP systems, when needed.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, and RFIs.
  • Provide technical guidance, quality assurance, and mentorship to junior engineers/designers.
  • Assist in maintaining plumbing design standards and company-wide quality control.
  • Adhere to company quality control and project management procedures.
  • Support project managers in client meetings, presentations, and proposal development.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Primarily office-based with occasional exposure to construction sites (dust, fumes, noise, hazardous materials, and varying weather conditions).
  • Compliance with company safety policies and PPE requirements is mandatory.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, use hands/fingers, handle tools, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. on a regular basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field with experience in food and beverage sector a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 10+ years of plumbing design experience and engineering.
  • Proficiency with Revit preferred, and hydraulic calculation tools.
  • Experience with SCRUM and Lean Design/Construction preferred.

  • Ability to travel occasionally (domestic and international); valid passport required or ability to obtain.
