Job summary

ABB in Fort Smith, AR, onsite, is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer – Packaging & Motor Design to lead packaging solutions for NEMA motor products. You’ll drive from concept through production, coordinating cross-functional teams to meet performance, cost, and manufacturing goals.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering and 2+ years in manufacturing or packaging engineering, with CAD proficiency (Creo/SolidWorks/AutoCAD). Strong communication and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 2+ years in manufacturing, mechanical design, packaging engineering, or product development.
• Proficiency in CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar) with BOM interpretation.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and project planning skills; able to manage multiple tasks.
• Effective written and verbal communication across teams, customers, suppliers, and operations.
• Experience with packaging design, motor design, packaging test methods, and protective systems preferred.
• Knowledge of SAP, engineering change management, Lean, Six Sigma, root-cause analysis, and related processes preferred.
• Authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, specification, validation, and continuous improvement of packaging solutions for NEMA motor products.
• Manage packaging and engineering projects from concept to production release with cross-functional teams.
• Develop testing, validation, and corrective action activities to verify performance and reduce damage.
• Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, logistics, sales, and customers to optimize materials and processes.
