Job summary

Texas A&M University seeks a Technical Laboratory Coordinator to supervise the machine shop and rapid prototyping studio within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. You will educate students on safe equipment use and fabricate parts to tight tolerances, while assisting staff and faculty with fabrication tasks.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and several years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Five years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leads training sessions for mechanical engineering students on manual shop equipment, CNC machines, and related software.
  • Provides technical assistance and instructional support to students, staff, and faculty in the machine shop and rapid prototyping studio.
  • Performs semi‑complex jobs of a mechanical nature.
  • Manufactures parts from steel, aluminum, or other materials from drawings, prints, or from verbal instruction to a required tolerance.
  • Manufactures parts consisting of gears, all makes of threads, shafts, adaptors, jigs, and fixtures to very close tolerances.
  • Provides support to laboratories and performs necessary maintenance on lab equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
