Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Technical Staff Assistant IV in Mechanical Engineering to support machine shop operations, teach and assist in lab courses, and maintain lab equipment and safety standards on the UT Austin campus.

Responsibilities include operating CNC mills and lathes, fabricating prototypes, preparing lab setups, and coordinating materials for teaching labs, with emphasis on reliability and safety in an advanced engineering facility.

Qualifications

• Associate of Applied Science degree required.
• Five years of experience as an instrument maker or machinist beyond the apprentice level.
• CNC machining experience using Haas machines and controls on at least a 4th axis Mill, and tool room lathe.
• Must understand G code programming at the Machine console, as well as Mastercam software.

Responsibilities

• Teach the department’s ME 350, Machine Tool Operations for Engineering course.
• Assist with fabricating prototypes for ME 466E, Capstone Design course.
• Co-Responsible for teaching the Machine Shop certification classes.
• Maintain lab curriculum support flow for teaching labs in the student machine shop.
