Job summary

IMEG invites applications for a Mechanical Intern Technician in Germantown, MD, a 10-12 week summer internship. You will assist in mechanical design, documentation, and site observations under supervision of engineers and consultants on real projects.

You’ll contribute to government/municipal and science & technology sectors, working with cross‑functional teams and benefiting from ESOP ownership and a strong mentorship culture.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an Associate’s Degree utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent software tools or engineering required
  • May be required to assist with field duties such as surveying and materials testing; Strong interest in design consulting; Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design portions of mechanical systems projects according to code and IMEG standards
  • Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment
  • Assist with client relations, project design notebook updates, and documentation for permanent record files
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
  • Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Intern Technician in Germantown, MD. Over 10-12 weeks, you’ll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants on real project work. In this role, you’ll support project documentation, coordination, and site observations while working within project budgets and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. You’ll contribute to work in government/municipal and science & technology markets, advancing high‑performance, energy‑efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

Pay & Benefits

State of Maryland Pay Range: $22.00-$24.00 per hour

The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on job‑related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
