Job summary

Applied Technical Services, LLC (ATS) seeks an Engineering Consultant to support the Mechanical Integrity Department at the Charlotte, NC office. The full-time role offers 40 hours weekly with potential overtime and is ideal for recent graduates in mechanical or civil engineering. ATS supports API certifications through on-the-job training.

The position involves field inspections of tanks, vessels, and piping, plus CAD work, calculations, and client project management. Travel ~30% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Structural Engineering or closely related field required.
• Experience in Mechanical Integrity preferred but not required.
• Willing to travel ±30% out of office, typically not more than one maybe 2 weeks at a time.
• API Certifications are to be obtained through OJT after hire and pre-test support from ATS in one or more of the following specialties: API-510, API-570, API-653, CWI.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis preferred.
• Desire to obtain Engineer in Training (EIT) and /or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
• U.S. Persons only: A requirement of this position is access to information that is subject to U.S. export controls under ITAR.
• Ability to learn and comply with all company policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills written and verbal.
• Applicants must pass a drug screen and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of industrial equipment under the supervision of qualified API Inspection personnel (storage tanks, pressure vessels, and piping systems).
• Generate calculations in accordance with API, ASME, STI, etc.
• Generate written reports utilizing MS Word and MS Excel.
• Develop AutoCAD drawings or isometrics.
• Assist in Managing projects ranging from $5,000 - $100,000.
• Assist in Managing client relationships.

Work Conditions

• Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
• Work from heights on scaffolding, ladders, elevated platforms, man-baskets, etc.
• Work in confined spaces which will require crawling, stooping, climbing, etc.
• Work in around operating equipment and industrial environments.
• Work with radiation and hazardous materials such as cleaners, penetrants, film developing chemicals, etc.
