Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Technician

Sigma Design is a product development, engineering, and manufacturing firm based in the Pacific Northwest, offering innovative services to diverse clients worldwide. We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team in Redmond, WA. The role is in-office, with a pay range of $28.00-$35.00/hour.

Primary Function

The Mechanical Engineering Technician maintains and upgrades prototypes, products, tools, and assemblies to support Sigma Design’s engineering activities. They provide technical support through documentation, troubleshooting, and design reviews.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Build and rework prototypes according to engineering specifications, including mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, soldering, and joining with adhesives.
  2. Maintain and upgrade proof of concept devices and prototypes using pneumatics, sensors, motors, cameras, flex circuits, textiles, etc.
  3. Systematically troubleshoot design issues and collaborate with engineers for analysis.
  4. Perform component-level debugging and resolve complex problems.
  5. Conduct electromechanical tests and document results.
  6. Support engineering team activities as needed.
  7. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  8. Provide detailed feedback to engineers to improve assembly and product design.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical prints.
  • Experience with hand and power tools; shop tools like lathes, mills, and drill presses is desirable.
  • Familiarity with GD&T.
  • Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering irons (IPC certification is a plus), and other electrical lab equipment.
  • Ability to follow detailed engineering instructions and procedures.
  • Hands-on prototyping skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic math and computer literacy, including MS Office and web navigation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to Sigma Design’s core values.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; GSuite is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
Work Environment

The role involves working in a lab/production environment with appropriate PPE. Occasional testing in environmental conditions, travel, and physical demands such as standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds are required.
