Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited engineering discipline.
• 5–10+ years as a Marine Engineer.
• Knowledge of piping, HVAC, insulation, machinery ventilation, and related systems.
• U.S. citizenship to work in the United States.
• Experience with commercial and government projects is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of ABS, USCG, and SOLAS rules.
• Ability to develop, comprehend, and evaluate contract specifications.

Responsibilities

Job Description – Mechanical Engineering Manager (Covington, LA)

General Position Summary:

• Champion the company's mission and vision by managing a team of engineering professionals.
• Provide direction and mentorship for developing engineered solutions meeting both functional and regulatory requirements and production timelines.
• Support development of contract plans, specifications, and estimates for commercial and government projects.
• Lead the team in producing P&ID drawings for new vessel construction and modifications, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, codes, and class/regulatory rules.
• Lead mechanical engineering group in support of Production Design team with model reviews/routing guidance/VFI compliance and tracking.

Essential Functions:

• Lead team in producing drawings, analysis, and technical reports with in-house resources.
• Manager mechanical engineering work on new vessel and vessel modification design projects with respect to ship piping systems, HVAC, and equipment. Perform calculations to support design decisions and quality check calculations to ensure final products meet quality standards and contract standards and requirements.
• Track and manage incorporation of drawing technical and administrative comments from multiple sources.
• Guide the writing of Equipment Specifications, Datasheets, Material Requisitions, and Technical Bid Evaluations.
• Review/Approve drawings & technical reports for release.

Other Responsibilities:

• Participate in client meetings and develop successful working relationships.
• Work with multidisciplinary staff.
• Support the Estimating and Proposals with takeoffs, specification reviews, quote evaluations, concept design work, and proposal support.
• Maintain mechanical team staffing, evaluate, and recommend candidates.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit 8 hours per day.
• Ability to perform site visits, inclines, etc.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Relevant Engineering Discipline from an ABET accredited school.
• 5-10 plus years as a Marine Engineer is required.
• Knowledge of piping, HVAC, insulation, machinery ventilation, sewerage systems, sea water systems, pipe sizing based on fluid mechanics, pump matching, selection and use of piping components, pipe routing and pipe support design
• Professional Engineers License preferred but not required.
• Experience working on both commercial and government projects is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of ABS, USCG, & SOLAS rules.
• Ability to develop, comprehend, and evaluate contract specifications.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
