Job summary

Ultipro in the United States seeks a Marine Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and analysis of shipboard piping and propulsion systems. You will coordinate with project teams to produce equipment lists, P&IDs, and regulatory documents, while ensuring QA and adherence to ASME and ABS standards.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities

Responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Review contract specification, determine and document requirements for shipboardmachinery, propulsion and auxiliary systems in conjunction with and performancecriteria.
• Write and review purchase technical specifications and perform vendor quotationevaluations. Develop material take-offs including specialty item lists.
• Plan and define the mechanical engineering deliverables (equipment lists, P&IDs)required for each project based on the construction specifications, vessel build strategyand other contractual requirements.
• Perform calculations applying mechanical engineering principles, techniques, proceduresand criteria. Additionally, perform piping system design, piping stress analysis, pipingmaterial engineering and metallurgy (material selection, MSDs, corrosion studies, weldprocedures), valve lists and pressure vessel design
• Plan and define the Marine Engineering Drawings/Tasks required for each Job based onthe regulatory classification of the job.
• Prepare, revise, and/or review technical manuals, engineering operating procedures,instructions, specifications, drawings, standards and documentation for cognizantequipment and systems.
• Participate in design reviews and provide oversight of subcontract and internalengineering activities involved in the design and engineering of all piping engineeringdeliverables.
• Interact with project engineers, project management, and all project stakeholders insupport of project requirements.
• Ability to support the production workforce concerning mechanical engineering relatedactivities.
• Perform quality assurance reviews of analyses, calculations and drawings.
• Responsible for resolving all Class, Regulatory and customer comments related tomechanical engineering deliverables.
• Assist with the development of Concept Designs and technical proposals.

Qualifications

The following qualifications and knowledge are necessary to successfully perform this job:

• Must be self-motivated, strong analytical and problem solving skills, possess excellentcommunication (i.e., verbal and written) skills and possess a solution-oriented mindset.
• Must have a comprehensive understanding of pipe sizing based on fluid mechanics, pumpmatching, pipe component selection, pipe support/routing design, and HVAC systemdesign.
• Familiarity with the design and engineering of marine vessel piping systems and/orcomprehensive knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3.
• Ability to trouble-shoot and coordinate interfacing of marine piping systems.
• Competency in using industry-standard shipboard machinery piping system design andanalysis software tools (PIPE-FLO, CAESAR II).
• Experience in mechanical and piping system design using AutoCad.
• In-depth knowledge of federal regulations (USCG), international rules (SOLAS, ANSI,ASTM) and classification society rules (ABS).
• Technical writing skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools is required.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, orrelated field required.
• Minimum 1 - 5 years of Marine Mechanical Engineering experience is required.
• Professional Licensure in Mechanical, Marine or an applicable discipline is highlydesired.
• Shipyard experience with new vessel construction is preferred.
• Experience with Petrochemical, LNG, Refinery processing desired.
• Experience with electrical automation systems based on PLC technology desired.
