Job summary

IMEG Corp in Rock Island, IL offers a paid internship program for Mechanical Engineering students. You’ll assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the building industry, under a mentor and cross-functional teams.

The program runs 10–12 weeks in summer, full-time in office, with real project work, opportunities to convert to full-time, and access to IMEG’s IDEA incubator and in-house AI tools.

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Proficient with MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry.
• Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards.
• Support project work within the project's monetary budget while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
• Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment.
• Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers.
• Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress.
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
• Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement

What You’ll Do

• Assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry
• Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards

• Assist with good client relations, project design notebook, and documentation for permanent record files
• Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers
• Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress
• Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement

What You’ll Bring

• Required Education: Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
• Required Skills/Abilities: Strong interest in design consulting
• Required Skills/Abilities: Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Required Skills/Abilities: Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
• Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Preferred: Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

• Industrial support work includes bulk material handling, substations, automation/controls, structural support, and plant infrastructure.
• The team also supports recurring civil and municipal water/wastewater-related scope, with strength in heavy industrial systems, facility upgrades, and infrastructure-driven work.
• Recent work includes SCIF Spaces, Industrial; 2022 VESIL Lab Security Upgrades, Industrial; and TMMK Café 2000 Criteria, Industrial.

State of Illinois Pay Range

$22.00–$24.00 per hour

The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on job‑related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
