General Matter, Inc. is offering a Summer 2027 Mechanical Engineering Internship in Los Angeles. The role focuses on designing, building, and testing mechanisms and structures that enable our enrichment technology.

You will work with engineers across disciplines to bring hardware from concept through build and test. You will gain hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional engineering, with mentorship from seasoned professionals in a mission-driven

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate student in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Hands-on design, prototyping, or analysis experience.
• Familiarity with CAD tools and basic coding in Python or MATLAB.
• Team player in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing mechanisms and mechanical structures for testing and enrichment.
• Help optimize designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability.
• Support testing hardware including thermal, vibration, and durability trials.
• Contribute to root-cause analysis of test failures and mitigation ideas.
• Coordinate with electrical, software, manufacturing, and nuclear engineers to integrate designs.
