Job summary

General Matter is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our growing team in Los Angeles. You will design, model, and analyze HVAC and building mechanical systems for commercial projects, with a focus on energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality.

You will work with senior engineers using Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM workflows, supporting energy analysis via IES and design automation with Dynamo/ Grasshopper. A strong collaborative mindset and clear communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering (Junior or Senior).
• Completed HVAC design, heat transfer, thermodynamics coursework.
• Familiar with BIM tools like Revit and AutoCAD.
• Interest in energy analysis and IES software.
• Experience with Python, C#, or visual programming.
• Collaborative mindset for built environment projects.
• Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and analysis of HVAC systems using Revit, AutoCAD.
• Support load calculations, equipment sizing, and hydronic layouts.
• Learn BIM modeling and simulation with IES.
• Coordinate with architectural and electrical teams.
• Prepare construction documents and specs.
• Contribute to design automation using Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python.
• Communicate concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams.
