Job summary

General Matter is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to design, build, and test mechanisms and structures enabling our enrichment technology. You will work with engineers across electrical, software, chemical, manufacturing, nuclear, materials, and physics disciplines to move hardware from concept through build and test.

Qualifications

• Pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in mechanical/related engineering disciplines.
• Hands-on mechanical design, prototyping, or analysis experience.
• Familiar with CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks) and exposure to FEA or engineering coding (Python/MATLAB).
• Collaborative team member thriving in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Support design of mechanisms and structures for testing and enrichment across product lifecycle.
• Assist optimization of designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability.
• Contribute to testing hardware via thermal, vibration, shock, and durability tests.
• Perform root-cause analysis on test failures and develop hardware mitigations.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, manufacturing, and nuclear engineers to ensure integrated designs.
