Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern to support standard design of engineering systems and assist lead engineers on diverse projects within Global Facilities. The role emphasizes growth, hands-on learning, and collaboration across teams in a dynamic environment.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree, have strong communication and problem-solving skills, and are legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Must be enrolled and in good standing in a related post-secondary/technical program.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.

Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market: Global Facilities. The Global Facilities group is responsible for the planning and design of manufacturing facilities, district energy systems, data centers and mission-critical facilities. This includes work across diverse industries, including aerospace, space and defense, food and beverage, life sciences and technology, consumer products, healthcare and advanced manufacturing, guiding projects from site selection through startup.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.
• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Compensation

$20.00-37.00 Hourly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
