Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Energy & Industrial Group in Chicago. The role supports senior engineers on projects spanning power plants, industrial facilities, oil & gas, and renewable energy initiatives.

The start date targets Summer 2027, with opportunities to assist in design, calculations, drawings, and vendor review. You will work under experienced engineers, expanding your knowledge in mechanical engineering and project execution, while developing

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar (preferred graduation Winter 2027 or Spring 2028).
• Strong academic background and coursework in mechanical systems analysis (thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer).
• Good verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills are required.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Self-starter, proactive, able to work independently with minimal direction.
• Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of system designs.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Assist in evaluating bid packages and vendor drawings for major energy equipment and installation services.
• Work on project reporting, tracking progress and related data.
