Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is offering a Mechanical Engineering Intern/Co-op opportunity in Butler, PA. Interns will work on maintenance and engineering projects, partnering with plant leaders to develop practical, real-world solutions.

The role includes designing, evaluating, and improving equipment, reading blueprints, and contributing to cost and project planning while gaining exposure to a major North American steel producer.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or other related technical degree.
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment.
• Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, redesign, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment.
• Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action.
• Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
• Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
• Various other projects as needed to support the business.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree

Sophomore year completion by Summer 2027
