Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs in Columbus, OH is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support maintenance and engineering projects. Under supervision, interns apply engineering principles to assist in the performance of duties.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, evaluating machinery, reading blueprints, and assisting in planning and cost control. Eligible students must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program and will gain real-world experience at a leading steel producer.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree.
• Completion of at least sophomore year by the summer of 2027.

Responsibilities

• Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment
• Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, redesign, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment
• Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action
• Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
• Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement
• Various other projects as needed to support the business

Education

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Sophomore year completion by Summer 2027
