Job summary

Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) seeks co-op students in Mechanical Engineering to join the ATAS laboratory. You will design, develop, and document mechanical components for large-scale prototypes used in government contracts, using SolidWorks for parts and assemblies.

Participants gain hands-on engineering experience, coordinate assembly and testing, and learn tolerance analysis and fabrication processes such as machining and 3D printing while alternating terms of work and school. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be eligible to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit
  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and documenting designs for use in DOD applications
  • Mechanical design & analysis
  • Machining, 3D-Printing, sheet metal bending, and other manufacturing processes
  • Building assemblies and integrating subsystems
  • Part finishing processes (conversion coating, anodizing, painting, etc.)
  • Use SolidWorks and other design tools to create parts, assemblies, and drawings
  • Develop hands-on engineering skills while helping the team coordinate assembly and testing of large prototype systems
  • Tolerance Analysis
